Hot Pics Jeopardize Elected Official’s Campaign Published on : Sun, 05 Oct 2008 18:53:08 +0000
When did politicians get so HOT?
_____
As Macomb County grapples with a record-breaking budget deficit that threatens dozens of jobs and services, County Commissioner Carey Torrice is grabbing all the attention for scantily clad photos of her sweeping across cyberspace and now a video of her posing in a bikini for national television.
“Bikinis are my favorite thing to wear,” Torrice said on television’s “Inside Edition” this week.
The 31-year-old Democrat first captured the spotlight last week after entertainment and celebrity gossip Web site, TMZ.com, named her America’s Hottest Politician because of photos she posted of herself on the Internet. The photos show her in revealing cop costumes with plunging necklines and short skirts.
The occasional model and actress acknowledged Monday that all the attention could hurt her re-election bid against Republican Bill Revoir, an ordained minister whom Torrice narrowly unseated two years ago in the swing district of southern Clinton Township.
“I feel the photos are inappropriate and out of line for a person in public office,” said Revoir, who served three terms as a commissioner. “Carey is out there promoting herself and embarrassing her district and the county.”
What a stuffed shirt. Lighten up, dude! Torrice disagreed with Revoir, saying the photos are fun, harmless depictions of a young elected official who defies the stereotypes of old, rigid politicians.
“I hope people realize I am a good commissioner and work very hard,” Torrice said. “The voters are No. 1 to me, not acting in Hollywood.”
Torrice points to her vocal support for veteran benefits, a successful proposal to reduce euthanasia at the county’s animal shelter and a push to get commissioners next year to take a 5% pay cut.
Whatever the case, Clinton Township residents are sounding off before they go to the polls Nov. 4.
“The pictures are totally inappropriate in the times and crisis we’re having right now in the county,” resident Bill Susick, 46, said. “Right now I need a representative, not party girl.”
Connie Delisle, 48, said Torrice is exactly that — a representative.
“She’s very genuine and caring and gets things done,” Delisle said. “A young, motivated, dynamic girl like her is a welcome change in the district.”
So what do you think? Is it a BAD thing if your elected official is sizzling hot? Certainly can’t hurt industrial recruitment if this babe comes to the presentation. I’d never even heard of this place until this chick became its ambassador. If you can prove to me that a significant percentage of the local population looks like this, I may just move there!

Simpson Headed to Prison… Finally! Published on : Sun, 05 Oct 2008 18:42:45 +0000
No glove, no love... in prison.
______
Guilty!
That’s the verdict against O.J. Simpson, who confronted two sports memorabilia collector in a Las Vegas hotel over stuff he claims had been stolen from him. Simpson and three other men were charged with several felonies in the confrontation, including kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.
A jury convicted Simpson of those charges last week, but we all know what he was really convicted for, wink wink.
A lot of people think he got away with viciously murdering his ex-wife and her friend outside of her town house on June 12, 1994 (yes, it was THAT long ago). I’ll never forget that two-hour car chase through rush-hour freeways in Los Angeles. It made you think, “Hmmm, he musta done it if he’s running for the border!”
When OJ wrote that book describing how he “hypothetically” committed the murders, I was left with no doubt that he was a guilty SOB, as a court found in a wrongful death suit filed by the victims’ families.
What a shame that such a gifted athlete became such a self-focused thug, remorseless. Even if you somehow suspended your disbelief enough to think OJ didn’t slaughter his ex-wife, you have to admit that his behavior ever since has been very revealing of his shady character.

Budweiser/Lucas Oil Team Leads Top Fuel Qualifying Field Published on : Fri, 03 Oct 2008 18:56:34 +0000
At the O’Reilly Midsouth Nationals, Brandon Bernstein drove to his 13th career No. 1 qualifying position, his second of the season, with a 3.825-second elapsed time at 313.88 miles per hour. For the second consecutive week, the Budweiser/Lucas Oil team earned the NHRA Full Throttle award for excellence and consistency in qualifying.
“It seemed like Tim (Richards) had the car on a string,” said Bernstein. “We were consistent and strong in every single qualifying attempt and we held the No. 1 qualifying slot from the first qualifying pass to the last. The team did an awesome job!”
It was consistency on Friday and Saturday that led to the team’s high spirits for Sunday’s eliminations at Memphis Motorsports Park.
In the opening round, Bernstein defeated Pat Dakin, 3.884/308.78 to Dakin’s respectable 3.967/301.60.
“It’s very important that we go rounds today,” said Bernstein. “Here’s one in the bank, now if we can only get three more.”
In the quarterfinals, Bernstein faced off against Larry Dixon. It was an even leave out of the gate, but Dixon dropped a cylinder and lost traction. The Budweiser/Lucas Oil team took the win with low elapsed time of the round, 3.880/297.09 to Dixon’s 4.541/174.59.
“Larry and his team are tough customers,” said Bernstein. “Tim had a handle on what the track would hold and made another impressive tuning call.”
Bernstein transferred to the semifinals to face Doug Herbert. It was a great side-by-side battle but Herbert was first to the win light, winning by about two feet, taking a hole shot victory.
“That was a crusher,” said Bernstein. “We were so close. I feel like I let the team down on this one. If I had just a little better reaction time we might have gotten by him.”
It was the Budweiser/Lucas Oil team’s second consecutive final four showing, and at the end of the day they held low elapsed time (3.825) and top speed (313.88) of the O’Reilly Midsouth Nationals.
Though Bernstein remains sixth in Top Fuel standings, he has significantly closed the gap between himself and second place. He is only 10 points out of fifth place, 11 points out of fourth place, and 35 points (less than two rounds) out of second place.
