Fulmer to get the axe at UT

November 3rd, 2008

Football season is just around the corner!

Can't find a job? Tennessee is hiring!

______

Phillip Fulmer won’t return as the Tennessee Volunteers’ coach next year, sources tell ESPN.

The Vols are 3-6 (1-5 in the SEC), having lost three of their past four games. Sure the Vols won their first national championship in 47 years just a decade ago under Fulmer, but college football is a “what have you done for me lately?” kind of business to be in. Tennessee fans are fed up with posting their second losing season in the past four years.

Fulmer reportedly met with officials Monday morning and reached a mutual agreement that it would be best for all parties if Fulmer did not return next season. He signed a new seven-year contract last summer that was worth $2.4 million this season. A buyout of the contract after this season will cost Tennessee $6 million!

It’s amazing how far one of the dominant programs in all of college football in the 1990s has fallen. Since 2001, the program has lost 31 games.
