The Single Life: Pick-Up Artistry

Have you ever wished you were smooth enough to charm the hottest girl in any room? Having money and good looks helps, for sure, but even the average guy can up the odds of scoring by making a few mental adjustments.
Tips for picking up women are offered by Mystery and Matador, aka Erik Von Markovik and Stan Tayi, on tonight’s episode of “The Single Life with Sam Phillips,” MavTV’s weekly talk show about sex and dating. The episode airs at 11:30 p.m. EST (9:30 Pacific).
Mystery and Matador are “seduction artists” and the stars of VH1’s reality show “The Pick-up Artist.” Mystery says a third season is in the pending stages or he may appear in a spin-off. A group of male contestants who have been historically unsuccessful in love and relationships learn the art of the “pickup” with guidance to meet potential mates in locations such as coffee shops and night clubs.
Matador says that on the show and in their 3-day intense boot camps, they teach “very common sense things like how you can be interesting in the moment. You just have to slow things down.”
“Body language can tell volumes about the whole situation. Imagine if the audio is turned off for the whole episode, we as the audience can still pretty much stereotype each character. The body language can tell you if a guy is comfortable and how he feels about himself,” says Matador.
“On the show, we have hidden cameras set up in the club. I’ll see a student creeping out a girl and I’ll tell him on the earpiece to back off, lean back, let her re-engage in the conversation rather than attacking her,” Mystery says. “I want the girl to chase me. Unless I lean back, I can’t give her that gift, that opportunity, to chase me. Some guys just stand there and pay way too much attention for too long. Think how many women I’m helping by teaching the men how to do it right. So many happy women.”
Sometimes the key to getting the attention of women involves a bit of illusion — perhaps using buddies and female friends to suggest you have charisma that’s worth discovering.
“For me, the number one most attractive characteristic for a male — the one that sidesteps all other characteristics — is if you can prove that other women already find you attractive. And if you feel discomfort when you’re going in for that first good night kiss, you’ve already blown it. I’ll hug some of my buddies and that gets her accustomed to my touch. Now we can escalate. There are certain comfort levels that have to be achieved before she’ll advance to the next stage,” says Mystery.
They’ve written a book called “Revelations” that is about social dynamics and how to pick up hot women. It promises to teach you “how to completely take over a room the moment you step foot in it.”
“We did a bit of a brain dump of everything we know and put it into this book,” Matador said.
The Single Life Shout Out is from World Series of Poker Champion Jamie Gold, who offers similar advice. “Once a woman approaches you, you’re pretty much in. My best way to pick up women is not to try. If all the guys in the room love you, that causes the women to say, ‘Who IS that?’”
