Some men are intimidated by smart wives and girlfriends. Maybe they feel insecure about being upstaged and looking as moronic as those clueless husbands you see on so many TV ads these days.
Scientists say those of us who aren’t scared away from a babe with brains will live longer.
Swedish scientists have discovered that long life and good health may have a lot to do with a wife’s education. Namely, her skill at processing advice about healthy lifestyles and passing it on. And her ability to assess risks.
I guess a lot of us guys are still clueless (or just plain stubborn) and having a smart chick as your “ole ball and chain” is a good way to have someone with common sense around to clue us in — i.e. nag — that we shouldn’t eat bacon at every meal or buy a Harley and ride without the helmet to look cooler.
Indeed, mortality rates are affected by marital status. The mortality rate among single men under 34 is about 2 1/2 times higher than that for young married men. Widowed or divorced men over 80 have a mortality rate one-third higher than married men.
So gripe all you want about how your marriage is cramping your style, brother. At least you may be around a while longer to enjoy it.
There are other benefits to having a spouse of equal or greater intelligence, chief among them being able to carry on endless interesting conversations on a variety of topics. If your lady is well educated, I’m guessing she makes decent money too.
