Review: Able Planet Linx Audio

The Clear Harmony headphones with Linx Audio deliver award-winning sound quality.

I was sent the Able Planet Linx Audio Clear Harmony Noise Canceling Headphones to test during a recent transcontinental flight and review in this blog. It was amazing how the headphones virtually cancelled out nearly all of that annoying rumble, even though I was seated in the middle of the plane near the engines. I was able to connect to my iPod and the plane’s seat jack to enjoy music and video in a way I never had at 30,000 feet. The removable cord also connected to my laptop computer, creating my own personal space filled with full, rich sound.
I was surprised to learn that Able Planet develops technologies for the hearing impaired. It became apparent these weren’t merely another brand of noise-cancelling headphones when I was still able to hear what people said to me while I wore them. These excellent headphones increase perceived loudness without increasing volume. The headphones can be used with or without a hearing aid.
I suffer from migraine headaches from time-to-time and found I was able to be in the same room with my daughter, even as she watched loud cartoons on the television. Don’t ask me to explain how, but it cuts through noise without completely canceling my ability to hear someone say something to me while I am wearing the headphones. Linx Audio’s products create high frequency harmonics that enhance sound quality and speech clarity of difficult to hear words or notes.
To be honest, I don’t completely understand the technology, but I certainly have thoroughly enjoyed testing it out.
The headphones are also lightweight and a comfortable fit. I knew that traveling on a flight would be the ultimate test of that. I never go anywhere without my iPod and some small headphones for it — perhaps I’ll never be truly bored again — but the sound quality from the Clear Harmony Noise Canceling Headphones makes the bulkier size worth the extra effort, especially on long trips where I know I’ll be listening to a lot of my tunes (or have a lot of noise to cancel out, as in the case of that airplane roar).
I can also tell you from personal experience that the headphones are sturdy enough to take the abuse that comes with such voyages. The headphones actually bend in such a way as to lay flat so you can either wear them around your neck as you board the plane or store them conveniently in your carry-on bag.
The Clear Harmony headphones sell for $299.99. You owe it to yourself to check them out if you are in the market for noise canceling headphones.
