Favre soars while Big Ben goes down again
_
They’re dropping fast.
Ben Roethlisberger took a blow to the head in Sunday’s loss in Kansas City and is questionable for next Sunday against the Ravens. Pittsburgh’s back-up, Charlie Batch, who relieved Roethlisberger, has a wrist injury that will require surgery and keep him out for possibly six weeks. The team’s only other quarterback is Dennis Dixon, a second-year player who has thrown just one NFL pass.
Lions QB Matthew Stafford’s status for Thursday’s game against the Packers is uncertain after he ended Sunday’s improbable comeback against the Browns with a left shoulder injury. After his game-winning TD pass with 0:00 on the clock, Stafford was visibly sore and pointing at his left shoulder. Lions coach Jim Schwartz said X-rays taken were negative. Stafford threw 5 TD passes.
While the youngsters were complaining about their pain, the old guy, Minnesota’s Brett Favre, threw 4 TD passes and misfired on just 3 attempts in a 35-9 win against the Seahawks. Favre’s 22-for-25 performance was a career-high and set a Vikings record.
Elsewhere in the NFL, the Colts and the Saints both improved to 10-0. It marked the third time in NFL history two teams have won their first 10 games. No pair has ever started 11-0. The Colts beat the Ravens 18-15 while the Saints beat the Bucs 35-9.
